Kunming Entertainment Overview

Kunming is the economic and cultural center of Yunnan, and it has enough bars and restaurants to reflect that status. There are three entertainment areas in the city, namely, Xinyin Residential District, Kundu Bar District, and Yunnan University Area. Each has its own distinctive style and atmosphere, which suits different crowds and different activities.

Located on the east side of the city, The Xinyin Residential District is renowned for its typical Chinese 'eahouses'and 'hinese bars' Locals and tourists alike frequent the various tea houses sampling the finest tea that the province has to offer. Visitors interested in exchanging travel stories and tips always find this a worthwhile experience. The Kundu Bar Area is the place for those seeking a livelier time. Most of Kunming' young people flock here nightly for rock n' roll bars, karaoke bars, flashy discos, and video arcades. Meanwhile, the area around Yunnan University also has a number of Western-inclined cafes, bars and clubs.

With its diverse residing ethnicities, Domestic travelers coming to Kunming regard shopping as a form of entertainment. There are two markets, Nan Yao Market and Yunnan Curio Building, which specialize in local products. Visitors that missed the chance to browse these markets during the daytime can instead head to the Kundu Night Market. It offers much more than ethnic specialties, including brocades and jade.

Kunming also hosts a wealth of festivals throughout the year. Among the most popular are the Kunming International Culture and Tourism Festival, the Kunming International Flower Exhibition and the Yi Torch Festival.
