KFC Customer in Foshan Finds Black Beetle in His Drink

KFC Customer in Foshan Finds Black Beetle in His Drink

Things are not looking too rosy for KFC in China at the moment thanks to a major drop in sales amid fears of a bird flu outbreak. The latest incident involving a disgusting black beetle in a pearl milk tea drink probably doesn’t help.

On August 11 at around 8pm, Mr. Guo and his wife decided to buy two cups of chocolate-flavored pearl milk tea at a KFC branch by Nanhai Xintiandi Plaza in Foshan, Guangdong. When Mr. Guo reached the end of his milk tea, he sucked up a couple of the black, tapioca pearls stuck at the bottom of the cup. But as he began to bite down on them he noticed that one of the pearls just wasn’t right. When he spat it out he was horrified at what he saw: a semi-chewed black beetle!

He immediately reported the incident and assembled eyewitnesses. The person in charge of the KFC branch then told him to stay at the scene to see if he gets any strange symptoms from biting down on the beetle. On August 13, a KFC staff member accompanied Mr. Guo to a hospital to get a health check and the doctor determined that the beetle was not capable of causing harm to humans. KFC then offered them a 300 RMB coupon which Mr. Guo did not accept. KFC also issued an apology and Mr. Guo has since forgiven the chain for the incident.

On a trip to Qingdao beer festival i bought, and paid good money for, BBQ'd beetle on a stick. To think I could have gone to KFC and received it as a free upgrade on a combo meal... They were delicious btw.

It's quite funny actually. This guy is disgusted to find a beetle in his drink, yet he will go home and probably eat some other disgusting creature for dinner.

Such responsible people at KFC! Mr. Guo was truely subjected to a serious health risk. I have seen beetles like that playing rock'n roll and corrupting whole generations. G-d knows what a bite might result in. So they took sufficient time for those 'strange symptoms' to develop and took him to the hospital two days after the fact. Chapeau! (Last night I was dreaming with my mouth open and two grasshoppers and a unicorn accidentally entered my digestive system. Luckily, I was not aware of it).
