Is there Any Limit to Taobao’s Wackiness? Nanjing Writer Sells Life Stories for 1 RMB

Is there Any Limit to Taobao’s Wackiness? Nanjing Writer Sells Life Stories for 1 RMB

Taobao recently hit the headlines when it began offering a human rental service for people who didn’t want to or couldn’t visit their elderly parents, which proved that you really can buy almost anything in China.

One other strange product that recently appeared on China’s online shopping universe was the selling of a person’s life anecdotes for an optional fee of 1 RMB. One Nanjing writer named Cong Pingping has decided to sell her real-life stories on Taobao, some of which include love experiences or interesting and funny tales. Cong has uploaded over 200 of her stories onto Taobao, each of which comes accompanied with an eye-catching picture to lull potential readers in. Cong’s store also encourages readers to record their own stories and share them if they wish to.

Despite its growing popularity, Cong hasn’t been able to make much from her store as many readers simply choose not to pay once they have read the story. Still, it’s nice to see someone promoting something more nourishing on Taobao for once, instead of this.

If you can read Chinese and are curious as to what the fuss is all about, check out one of her stories here.

If she put all her stories into one document, and had a few samples for people to read free, then people may actually pay 1rmb for all of them. A bargain, and perhaps will get a few more paying downloaders, rather than the usual freeloaders (TIC).
