“I Am Heartbroken”: Jackie Chan Issues Public Apology for Son’s Drug Arrest
Aug 21, 2014 By eChinacities.com

International movie star and beloved martial arts icon Jackie Chan has issued a public apology over his son, 31 year old Jaycee’s arrest, which occurred earlier this week.

The arrest is particularly embarrassing for Chan, as he has been a long time anti-drugs ambassador in mainland China. In the apology, which was published on his Weibo page, he first stated: “As a public figure, I am very ashamed; as a father, I am heartbroken” and went on to express his wish that other young people would learn a lesson from his son’s mistake.

However, he then went on to affirm that he stands by his son: “As your father, I’m willing to face the path ahead alongside you. Finally, my failure in raising my son is something I too must take responsibility for...”

Given that the news of Jaycee’s arrest was followed by 70 million users, netizens inevitably had a lot to say about it, however, surprisingly, many rushed to offer their support and reassure the movie star:

WzzYoov said: “It’s fine, you’re a good father, your son has just disappointed you”, whilst others pointed out his work as a public figure: “Jackie Chan failed to teach his own son properly, but he taught countless others!”

Others simply expressed their sympathy, such as Tendernesshao, who wrote, “Brother, I really feel for you”, and Yang Chengang: “Brother, you’re over 60 and still apologizing for your child. It makes me so sad to see this.”
