Explosion at a Chemical Plant in Nanjing Injures Several Hundred.
At 10:15 on July 28th, there was a large explosion at the Nanjing No. 4 Plastic Manufacturing Plant (located at Maigao Bridge in Xixia district of Nanjing city). As of 14:30 the same day, it has been confirmed by local authorities that the incident had killed 5 and injured several hundred nearby residents – of which 28 are in critical condition. The department for Environmental Protection and Surveillance has reported that the explosion had been caused by a leak of combustible gas from the pipelines. The incident is still being investigated at the moment.
