Huge Power Cut Hits Shanghai on June 5; Passengers Trapped in Subway for 40 Mins

Around 20:10 on June 5, many areas in Shanghai’s Jing’an, Puto and Huanpu districts experienced a power cut which affected many homes and businesses. Line 2 of the Shanghai subway was also affected, and people were trapped in trains for over 40 minutes.

It wasn’t until 21:46 that power was fully restored. Shanghai electricity officials stated that the accident was caused by a grid failure in the Pudong and Puxi networks,
