Historic Fujian Rd completes renovation
May 06, 2009 By eChinacities.com

Huangpu District's Fujian Road M. reopens today after a six-month renovation. Eight new stores have opened on the street, including a branch of Yangzhou Xiefuchun Cosmetic Store, which was founded in 1830, and Shanghai Wangkai Photographic Studio, which specializes in wedding pictures.

The street used to be renowned for its clothes stores and its architecture dates back to 1914. But over the past few years it fell into disrepair.

As part of the renovations, trade shops that did not fit into the historic feel of the street were relocated.

The district government said it hopes the renovation will revive the traditional feel of the street. The facades of the old buildings have been renovated but have maintained their original style.

Energy-efficient technology was used in the renovation of the buildings.
