Helicopters and Speedboat Patrols to Prevent Illegal Landing on Shanghai Islands

Helicopters and Speedboat Patrols to Prevent Illegal Landing on Shanghai Islands
Jun 10, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Shanghai authorities are employing a crew including speedboats, helicopters and surveillance cameras in order to stop people illegally landing on islands off the coast of Shanghai.

The islands are popular with locals and tourists alike, and in the past it was relatively easy to get there by paying local fishermen to drop you off and pick you up.

The Shanghai Ocean Bureau will patrol Dajinshan, Xiaojinshan and Fushan in order to deter any intruders trying to sneak up to the islands. This is apparently to protect the ecology of the mostly uninhabited islands.

The biggest of these Islands, Dajinshan is the most popular of the islands, and is home to over 200 monkeys, who authorities say could be dangerous. The only human inhabitants of the islands are two wardens, who live there for alternating three month stretches.
