On March 16th, Xinjiang Province was hit by heavy snow and strong winds due to a new cold front in the region. Visibility was reduced to about 50 metres. Urumqi International Airport was shut down three times and 59 flights were cancelled due to the heavy snow. The airport did not return to normal until 14:25 in the afternoon.
