Hangzhou Transport - Train

The main Hangzhou railway station is known simply as Hangzhou Railway Station (Hangzhou Huochezhan) or as Hangzhou City Railway Station (Hangzhou Chengzhan Huoche Zhan). The city's second station is Hangzhou South Station (Hangzhou Nan Zhan). Currently, Hangzhou East Station is under reconstruction.

Hangzhou Railway Station is the main station in Hangzhou. Most trains originating from Ningbo and heading westwards also stop at Hangzhou Railway Station.

South Hangzhou Railway Station, the former Xiaoshan Railway Station, is located at the crossing of Zhanqian Road and Chengzhong Road. Most trains passing through Hangzhou stop at South Hangzhou Railway Station.

Passengers can take bus 537 to travel from Hangzhou Railway Station directly to South Hangzhou Railway Station. It takes about 35 minutes.

Rail journey times to major destinations: Beijing (6.5 hrs), Shanghai (49 min), Ningbo (2 hrs), Xi’an (19 hrs), Nanjing (3 hrs), Wenzhou (3.5 hrs), Zhengzhou (13 hrs), Nanchang (5 hrs), Guangzhou (16.2 hrs)

Tickets can be bought at Hangzhou Railway Station, through hotel travel services or at ticketing offices in town.

There are three different ways to book a train ticket in Hangzhou: over the phone, online and at the ticket window. Tickets can be purchased over the telephone (9510 5195) up to 4-12 days in advance. If you want to reserve tickets for trains departing between 6:00-12:00, the tickets must be collected on the same day between 12:00-24:00. For tickets departing between 12:00-23:00, ticket pick up time is from 0:00-12:00. Tickets are non transferable and are void if not used on the correct day.

To book tickets online, visit www.12306.cn. Tickets can be reserved daily from 7:00-23:00 up to twelve days in advance.

Travelers heading for northern destinations (other than Beijing and Shanghai) should make inquiries about the most convenient travel option. In some cases the service from Shanghai is much faster. For example, the fastest Shanghai-Zhengzhou train takes 7 hours, while the direct service from Hangzhou takes at least 13 hours, so it makes sense to travel to Shanghai before taking a Zhengzhou train.
