Tourist Bus
Tourist buses are easily recognizable since the numbering system begins with the letter ‘Y’ (for ‘youke’ meaning ‘tourist’) followed by a number. These buses are often referred to as ‘youke’ and are a bit pricier than regular buses (3-5 RMB). Note: Y9 is roofless and tourists can take Y9 to travel around West Lake.

Pedicab
Pedicabs offer a romantic way of seeing the city, and can be cheaper than a taxi. They are not suitable for long-distance touring, but are good for distances up to 5 km. The hiring cost is 5 RMB for the first kilometer and 1 RMB for each additional kilometer.

Bicycle
One of the best ways to see Hangzhou is by bicycle: the gentle terrain and scenic beauty of the city make this an ideal way to take in the sights. Most bike rental stands can be found around West Lake.

There are over 40 bicycle rental stations in West Lake, but only three of them offer temporary bicycle rental cards for tourists from outside Hangzhou. The three rental stations are: Children’s Palace station (near the kiosk at the crossing of Beishan Road, south of Children’s Palace City River), Liulang Wenying Park station (north to the main entrance of Liulang Wenying) and Hubin Third Park station (main entrance of Hyatt Hotel, Binhu Road, Shangcheng District).

Procedures: Present your ID card and pay 200 RMB as a deposit and 100 RMB as payment for using the card. It’s free for the first hour and 1 RMB is charged for each additional hour. Tourists can pay a little attention to the rental time and return the bicycle within one hour. You can tour West Lake for free if you rent another bicycle at another rental station.  If you run into any confusion, you can turn to the staff around West Lake, who are friendly and helpful.
