In recognition of her brave act of saving the woman who fell into West Lake, the Hangzhou Good Samaritan Foundation recently presented the foreign woman with the "Good Samaritan Award" and 3,000 RMB. The foreigner’s name is Maria Fernanda Gomez Arregui, originally from Uruguay and currently residing in Shanghai.

On October 13th at 4:40, Maria and her boyfriend were visiting West Lake. While they were sight-seeing in the area between Xintiandi and the Dahua Hotel, Maria spotted a woman who had fallen into the lake floating about 20 metres from shore. Maria quickly stripped down, jumped into the lake, swam towards the woman, and brought her back to shore. With the assistance of her boyfriend and the public security personnel, she pulled the woman to shore. After checking to see that the woman was in stable condition, she left the scene with her boyfriend.
