A gunman who held over 10 people hostage in an Anhui Province café has been taken into police custody after surrendering, Shanghai Daily reports.

The man held the café hostage for over eight hours. 2 people were injured and are currently in hospital receiving treatment.

The whole thing began when the suspect, surnamed Tu, refused to stop at a police checkpoint. When police waved him over, he instead took out a handgun, showed it to them and drove away.

The police chased him for around 30 minutes while Tu allegedly shot at them, hitting two passersby. He then stopped the van and ran into an internet café.

After police cordoned off the building and sent in negotiators (including some of Tu’s relatives), Tu eventually surrendered.

Details about the suspect are circulating, as one local news station claims that Tu was shot by police before surrendering, whilst others claim that Tu is from Lu’an and in his 30’s.
