Guizhou “Time Travel Tunnel” Sets Drivers’ Cell Phone Clocks Back an Hour

A tunnel in Zunyi’s Honghuagang District in northern Guizhou has been dubbed the “time travel tunnel” after reports surfaced that drivers who pass through the black abyss had their cell phones’ clocks mysteriously set back one hour.

Despite the 400 m Guanjingnan Tunnel being built a fair few years back, drivers only started reporting this phenomenon since early 2012. One local said that he has to go through the tunnel everyday on his way to work, and that this would happen almost every time he drove through. Eerily, upon driving around 1 km away from the tunnel, phones would somehow automatically be reset to the correct time.

Some have speculated that the phenomenon is being caused by nearby magnetic fields, while others think that the perpetrator could be the lack of signal in the tunnel, which may interfere with the settings on the phone.
