Crazy success stories are never far away in China – as one student who became a multi-millionaire a month after graduating has proven. While studying at a Guangdong vocational college, Lei Langsheng developed a deep interest in phone software. He was often known to sit in lectures fiddling with his phone and surfing the internet, determined to enter in the field of user interface design after graduation. During the summer vacation of 2011, Lei and a group of six friends he met online rented a small apartment in Shenzhen and began developing phone software, releasing a test version of their first software online. Before long, an angel investment group contacted them and helped them establish a company, Bottle Tech. By the end of the year Lei and his team had received an investment of 18 million RMB. During August 2012, just a month after Lei graduated, Tencent CEO Ma Huateng bought Lei’s company for an amount of 60 million RMB, granting Lei millionaire status. With his newfound wealth, Lei bought his parents a new house in the countryside (and a fancy new bike).
