Guangzhou - Shantou Highway to Undergo Renovation

Guangzhou - Shantou Highway to Undergo Renovation
Mar 10, 2009 By eChinacities.com

The planned program to renovate the Licheng and Zhongxin sections of the Guangzhou-Shantou highway is open for public comment and opinion. As a result of the renovation, the current four-lane highway shall turn into an eight-lane highway designed for speeds of 80 kilometers per hour. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009 and is seen to be without an extra toll to be charged for the additional features.

The section to undergo renovation runs from Buxia Village in Licheng to the juncture between Zhongxin Town and Luogang District. After being renovated, the highway that covers the 19.1 kilometer stretch is to be forty to fifty-five meters wide.

The Guangzhou-Shantou highway (G324) is the only highway that runs across Zengcheng (about 34.5 kilometers with the section in downtown Zengcheng covering 6.5 kilometers) to downtown Guangzhou. Before the renovation, with the exception of the section across the downtown part of Zengcheng, the entire stretch is known to feature poor road conditions.

The renovation program has begun, starting off in Luogang District, and construction has been carried out for the 1.5 kilometer section in Zengcheng, with the whole project scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009. On completion, it will take only 40 minutes to travel from Guangzhou to Zengcheng. After the renovation, no extra toll will be charged and toll gates in Chang'an and Yanta will be integrated into only one toll station within a year.
