Guangzhou Metro Line Five to Open in December 2009

Line five of Guangzhou Metro is scheduled to open in December of this year. The new line will connect the current four lines and benefit over 500,000 passengers citywide, according to an announcement by the Guangzhou Metro Company on Wednesday.
The new line will run from Jiaokou in Liwan district to Wenchong in Huangpu district, and have a length of 32 kilometers with 24 metro stations. It will connect with line one at Yangji station, with line two at Guangzhou Railway Station, with line three at Zhujiang New Town and with line four at Chepinan Station. A public toilet will be built outside Chepinan Station for the convenience of the passengers.

It has been estimated that the intervals between each train will be five minutes during the beginning of operation. Tickets will be included under the current monthly metro card discounting system. Meanwhile, a northern section of line four from Wanshengwei to Chepinan will open and be extended northwards to Huangcun by 2010.
