Guangzhou has started building a horse racing venue as part of the major development project for hosting the Asian Games. The venue measures a total of 2,200 acres, equivalent in size to 200 soccer fields, and has received investments of around 700 million RMB. Once completed, it will be one of the largest horse racing tracks in all of China. 140 permanent stables and 40 temporary horse stalls are currently under construction, and 8 km of fencing for the tracks has been built. It is understood that after the games, the venue will be turned into a long-term training base for the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
