Guangdong Announces Sentence in First Bigamy Case Involving a Foreigner
Oct 17, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Earlier this year, reports emerged about a British man known as Jerry who came to Guangdong for work and married his local business partner Luo Ting, despite having a wife back in the UK. Upon being discovered by his wife Marry, Jerry continued his relationship with Luo and had two offspring with her. Marry, who was a full-time mother to their four children in the UK, then travelled to Guangzhou to report the incident to authorities who investigated the case on the suspicion of bigamy.

On October 16, the Guangzhou Yuexiu District Procuratorate sentenced Jerry and Luo Ting in what is the first case of bigamy involving a foreigner to be sentenced in Guangzhou. Jerry was sentenced to five months in detention and Luo to four months.
