Pontus Lidberg, a young Swedish choreographer and filmmaker, has created his own ballet version of Giselle that fuses the classic story with a more contemporary interpretation.
His Giselle takes place in a contemporary setting, where violent passions gravitate between transparency and expressivity. The Swedish choreographer affirms that, despite the fragility of myth, love is a force to reckon with in our society and proposes to illustrate this with a narrative that ranges from the realistic to the fantastic
Lidberg has been producing dances for stage and film since 2000 and is perhaps most recognized for his film “The Rain” (2007) which won him the Outstanding Achievement in Choreography for Film. Giselle will be staged at Beijing’s National Center for Performing Arts this November 8 and 9.
