On the list of things not to name your clothing store, “ISIS,” may be number one. A Shenzhen shop owner was investigated by an anti-terrorism police unit after naming her store ISIS.
Longgang district police received a report yesterday that a Chen Hong, 35, a shop owner in the district had put up a sign naming her store ISIS. After investigating, police found that the owner and store had no links to the terror organization.
Photos of the sign previously were spread around the Chinese internet. The sign had read “ISIS Longgang Shop,” with the four letters highlighted.
Chen said that ISIS was an abbreviation for yisi yisi. Yisi (意思) has a few (all positive) meanings in Chinese including interest, fun, idea, and desire. The store’s ISIS sign has since been removed.

I have always known ISIS to be the name of a top secret spy agency with an idiot for its top agent that has a serious drinking problem.

Ive always known Isis to mean the Egyptian goddess, until the name got hijacked by a mysterious group that came into existence in a momnets notice wielding considerable regional power.
