Gay Couple in Hebei Village Survive Exorcisms and Arranged Marriages
Nov 25, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Everyone loves a bit of uplifting news – this gay couple have truly defied all odds, as well as sad and weird responses to their coming out from their families.

Anwei and Yebin, a couple living in rural Hebei, are going strong and are now largely accepted by their village. They have signed contracts sharing their house, their money, and their property, with legal agreements surrounding their relationship functioning much like in any heterosexual marriage.

It took a while to get here, as their parents and fellow villagers have tried to keep them apart through a variety of bizarre ways; arranging exorcisms, attempts at arranged marriages, and conversion efforts. It took a long time for Anwei and Yebin’s parents to accept them for who they are, but they have come a long way. Yebin’s mother has even taken on the task of helping gay young people coming out to their families.

The Global Times reports that Yebin has announced that he is happy to tell everyone that the couple is going strong, with the aim of supporting others who are hoping to come out.

Glad they can be who they are and enjoy their lives - hopefully more gays in China can come out without any social stigma.

I agree. It's great to read something with a positive angle on this website for a change. Especially a story about two men beating the odds in a county where homosexuality was considered a mental illness not so long ago.

Homophobia lives. I am so happy these two won't have to live lies and can live with each other in happiness and love! Screw what the narrow minded proles in your podunk village think! Love is beautiful!

Glad to hear they have prevailed. People really should be worrying about their own lives instead of trying to dictate others.
