Located in Hangzhou’s Yuhang District is Guangxia Tiandu – a ghost city that can hold around 100,000 people but currently houses only around 2,000.

The ghost city has gained some fame of late however, as it is now the site of one of China’s many Shanzhai towns – areas built to completely replicate well-known tourist areas across the world.

The city imitates famous buildings and landmarks in Paris and has recently caught the attention of the French media. The town features an almost to-scale Eiffel Tower, an Arc de Triomphe, and a street designed to resemble the Champs-Elysees. The French media were reportedly impressed by the accuracy of the copycat architecture, which will complete its full construction by 2015.

They did point out one flaw however – the Tiandu Eiffel Tower is only 108m high whereas the real thing is 324m high. Oh well.

This is typical of the saddest things about China and Chinese..... copying shows nothing more than a "followers" attitude to life. Innovation and creativity is what is required to achieve the "Chinese Dream".
