France, Germany among 29 Nations Who Ban Import of Chinese Festival Snack

With the Dragon Boat Festival fast approaching, the production of Zongzi, the pyramidal shaped rice snack wrapped in bamboo leaf, has been going full tilt. That’s because this traditional snack is an essential part of the festival, which is to be held on June 2.

This year, however, those celebrating in France, Germany and 27 other nations across the globe will have to do without the snack this year as 29 nations have imposed a ban on the product.

This comes after the little snack failed importing inspections in the relevant countries. The ban will be a big hit for manufacturers of the snack, with the festival as their peak earning period. Joining France and Germany in banning the Zongzi are, among others, Spain, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Congo, Myanmar, South Korea, Taiwain, the UK and the US.
