Foshan Workers Made to Walk Around in Underwear Among Other Face-Losing Punishments

In what is surely one of the most bizarre management attempts to threaten encourage employees ever in China, a Foshan gym has said to its workers that if they don’t complete their duties to a satisfactory level, then they must walk around the street in nothing but their boxers. Other punishments for the poor employees include eating raw bitter melon, posing as beggars on the streets and completely shaving their heads.

The above photo was uploaded on July 28, and shows several employees who had obviously not been pleasing their boss enough and were forced to walk around the streets. Reportedly, the employees were also made to call out, “Task complete!” as they walked around.

The workers are required to report on what duties they will undertake each day, and if these tasks aren’t finished, they must accept one of the above punishments. The boss of the gym has claimed that his employees have been fine with the policies however, and said, “Although I’m now a multi-millionaire, I too had to endure such punishments once upon a time.”

Some lawyers have pointed out that such humiliating punishments is harming the employees’ dignity and is a violation of their human rights, and is illegal whether they accept the punishments or not.

You hear about these stories all the time. Yet I still haven't heard about the owner being arrest for any charges. You have between 6-10 men walking around in their underwear, in the rain clearly. Where are the police to get the men off the street? Where is the local government to protect the citizens from this kind of treatment? And these are stories you hear about, imagine what horrible things you don't hear about.
