Foshan Airport to Reopen Soon
Aug 12, 2009 By eChinacities.com

After seven years of inactivity, Foshan Airport is gearing up to open to the public once again. According to the Foshan Transport Bureau, trial-flights will take place before the end of August in preparation for its reopening to commercial domestic flights by the end of the year.

Foshan Airport was first established in 1987 for commercial flights. In 2002, due to local policies, the airport ceased to provide regular flights. It was only in 2008 that a plan to resume commercial activities was proposed, and in March 2009, renovation work on the airport's facilities began.

The enlargement of the Guangzhou-Foshan Expressway will be another addition to the city's transport network. Scheduled to open before the end of the year, it will cut by 1/3 travel time between central Foshan and Guangzhou's Baiyun International Airport.
