Former China Google Boss Kaifu Lee Temporarily Banned from Weibo
Feb 19, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Former head of Google China Kaifu Lee recently announced that he’d been temporarily banned from Weibo, where he has over 30 million followers. In a Twitter post Lee said “I’ve been silenced on Weibo for three days, so everyone can come here to find me.”

Lee has been vocal about his opposition to China’s internet and news censors in the past, and showed his support to the protests staged by Guangzhou-based newspaper Southern Weekly in January.

There is speculation that the ban is due to Lee’s recent criticism towards the recent appointment of former Olympic table tennis champion Deng Yaping as CEO of People’s Daily-operated search engine Jike. Lee recently stated on Weibo that the People’s Daily were wasting public money and had laid off 100 workers, which the state-run news company fervently denies.
