Foreign “Spartans” Detained for Street Campaign in Beijing
Jul 23, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Dozens of foreigners dressed as Spartans as part of a marketing campaign were detained by Beijing police for “affecting public order.”

Pictures of a large number of foreign men dressed as Spartans on the streets of Beijing have gone viral on Weibo. The photos show a dozen or more shirtless foreigners dressed up as Spartans in shorts and cloaks. According to sources, there were about 100 Spartans all over Beijing.

The Spartans were spotted at the Guomao subway station, on a pedestrian bridge in Sanlitun, and outside SOHO, holding food boxes. The foreigners were part of a street campaign for Beijing-based restaurant Sweetie Salad and were delivering salads to office workers.

This is one of the most pathetic displays of "authoritarian control" yet. 40 Foreigners walking through the streets of Beijing is not a disturbance to public order, and this overplayed display of grotesquely out-of-shape police officers dominating this "disturbance" is hugely embarrassing pathetic to chinese society.

It must have been frightening to the foreigners. I don't like to be in large groups with other foreigners, as it makes me a target. Besides, the cops all know me, and which direction to point me, when walking home drunk. China is great.

(detained by Beijing police for “affecting public order.”) Like affecting the orderly chinese padestrians and drivers, the people yelling on mobile and at westerners, sh?tting and spitting everywhere.....

Those men probably applied for a "Makertting Position" and when they got there, they told them "put on this and stand o the side of the road." lol I like how the cop is just....casually sitting on top of the guy. Like, "did you take the picture of me riding this foreigner like a horse?!"

and if the marketing campaing just happened to lead to those muscular foreign Spartans getting floored and mounted by scrawny Chinese policemen, more's the better.

I only see 2 Spartans down on the floor while 298 of them are still standing. Only 5 chengguan standing there though, I wouldn't call that victorious for the Beijing police....LOL
