Mar 10, 2009 By eChinacities.com

The renovation of the 'Five Celestials' Shrine in Yuexiu District of Guangzhou is part of the first group selected for the ‘56-sage list’ of the Nanyue Pantheon. The plan was initially suspended due to the small size of the exhibition hall. However, experts discussed yesterday a new plan to expand the shrine to an area of 2.4 hectares.

According to the plan, the Five Celestials Shrine will expand an additional 15 thousand square meters east to Mishi Road, south to Huifuxi Road, west to Tianshui alley, and north to Hongdexin Street.

The Five Celestials Shrine is praised as an Ancestor Temple of Guangzhou. It is one of eight scenic spots dating from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, now a protected provincial cultural relic.

About 88,530 thousand yuan has been invested in the shrine's renovation by the Yuexiu District of the Guangzhou Government. The shrine will have a garden-like exhibition hall.
