Jan 13, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Early morning on Saturday, a fire broke out in the old town of Shangri-La, Yunnan. The fire began at around 01:30 and while over 1,000 people helped to put the fire out, due to most of the houses being made of wood and high winds the fire spread quickly and firefighters struggled to put it out until early afternoon. Over 200 homes have been destroyed as well as a number of cultural relics.

Arson has been ruled out as the cause of the fire, the investigation is still undergoing but it is believed to have been caused because of an electrical fault.
