Famous Chinese Director Zhang Yimou Offers First Apology for Exceeding One Child Policy

On the evening of December 1, famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou made a statement through his representatives whereby he admitted to having two boys and a girl with his second wife as well as with a Wuxi woman named Chen Ting (Zhang has an adult child named Zhang Mo from his first marriage to previous wife Xiao Hua). Zhang also stated that he was willing to allow the family planning committee of Binhu District, City of Wuxi, to begin an investigation into his case. Further,, Zhang gave an apology for having exerted a bad influence from his actions.

The office of family planning for the Binhu District, Wuxi stated that they were hoping Zhang would cooperate with rules and regulations and provide a factual account of his annual salary so as to properly assess a suitable financial fine.

Zhang Yimou, one of China’s most famous directors, served as the head director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Zhang received honorary degrees from Boston and Yale University. Zhang’s many films have received awards from many international film festivals; as well, Zhang was nominated three times for an Academy Award and five times for a Golden Globe Award.
