The family of a woman who tragically died hours after giving birth are taking action against a maternity hospital in Hunan’s Xiangtan County.

There are conflicting accounts of what happened; the family claims that the husband found his wife dead on the operating table with no staff to be found, while the hospital claims that the woman, surnamed Zhang, died after delivering her son by ceasarian section, due to an amniotic fluid embolism, whereby amniotic fluid enters the mother’s bloodstream.

The family are suing on the grounds that the hospital not only failed to save Zhang’s life, but they also failed to properly inform them of Zhang’s operation and subsequent death.

The family has agreed to an autopsy to determine cause of death. Zhang’s child, a baby boy, is fortunately in a healthy condition.
