False Bomb Threat Leads to Arrest of Local

A Nanchang man who recently spread false information about the bombing of the Bayi Bridge on the Internet in order to attract the government’s attention, has been arrested by the police. On August 23rd, the People’s Procuratorate of Donghu District announced that it decided to hold a public prosecution for the man, surnamed Xia, for the crime of deliberately propagating false terrorism information.

According to Zhou Min, one of the public procurators, the defendant, Xia, spread the false information to attract the government’s attention of his frustration over what he considered to be the lack of efficiency of certain government agencies he had dealt with. On May 30th around 10:30, Xia logged on to the official website of Jiangxi People’s Government and spread the fake news, posting, “There are bombs around Bayi Bridge; please protect local people.”
