The Austrian Federal Criminal Police released a statement on March 20 that reported that police have arrested 25 suspects in a crackdown on human trafficking operations from China. Police from Slovenia, Switzerland and Cyprus are also involved in the operation coordinated by Europol to combat human trafficking operations.

Eurpol stated on March 20 that the in the action plan taken on by the four different nations, police checked a total of 288 establishments and questioned 1,154 people, most of them from China. Through the investigation, police identified 14 potential victims of human trafficking. The goal of the police operation was to find victims trafficked from China and strengthen intelligence regarding organized trafficking gangs.

The Chinese Embassy in Austria was informed of the operation and launched an emergency plan. The embassy is working with the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and the federal police in order to deal with the situation. The embassy will maintain close contact with the organizations involved and will provide necessary consular assistance to Chinese citizens.

I'd like to see more of this. Human trafficking is a horrible reality and is rife in China and other parts of Asia. I hope the perpetrators are punished accordingly.
