The Beijing Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and the Beijing Floating Population and Rental Management Committee Office jointly published a declaration stating the 2012 first semester sampling survey on employment status of migrants in Beijing would be carried out between the middle of May and the middle of June. The household survey will cover employment structure, distribution, employment rate, job training, labour relations, social insurance and salary.

The household survey will mainly be done from 18:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and 8:30 to 21:00 on weekends when migrants are likely to be home. Investigators will wear unified badges when doing the household surveys and respondents are expected to cooperate actively and fill in the questionnaire truthfully.

Beijing Human Resources and Social Security Bureau also released sampling data of September 2011. According to the data, most migrants come to Beijing seeking a job. Migrants born in the 1980s and 1990s account for 60% of the total migrant population. Those from Hebei, Henan and Shandong make up for 25%, 16% and 9% respectively. In terms of employment, 75% of migrants work in manufacturing, retailing, catering, construction, services for residents and other services.
