Drunken KTV Power Trip Leaves County Without Power, Literally

Drunken KTV Power Trip Leaves County Without Power, Literally

One angry local power supply official in Henan definitely abused his power last week. At a boozy KTV night, the club refused to give them their next drinks on the house, and they went on a power trip.

The incident occurred in Henan’s Qixian County, where a couple of local power supply officials downed several bottles of expensive liquor (probably baijiu, he should be grateful that he didn’t float to Urumqi) and demanded free booze.

When the KTV staff denied this request, the officials threatened, to as quoted in the SCMP, “unleash the wrath of the electric tiger”, a common reference to the state-run power supply network.

They actually followed through though, and turned off the power to half of the county – leaving thousands of homes and businesses without power for six hours. Allegedly one of the men from the group just called up the main office, and requested a power outage while repairs were done.

What kind of legal action will be taken is unclear, but the power company did apologise for the behaviour of its staff. A genuine power trip, if there ever was one.
