Driver Who Ran Over Yueyue Sentenced to 3.5 Years in Jail

Hu Jun, the driver of the van involved in the hit-and-run of two-year-old Yueyue in the city of Foshan on October 13, 2011, has been formally charged with involuntary homicide and sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. On September 5, the Nanhai District People's Court in Foshan issued its verdict after Hu Jun pled guilty to "traffic accident crimes," Xinhua news reports.

The court justified the lenient sentence on account of Hu Jun turning himself in to police and paying for a portion of the medical fees incurred while Yueyue was in hospital. She later died from her injuries on October 21.
