Longgang District Court in Shenzhen concluded its first ever trial involving a cult leader. The defendants, Tian and Lu, were found guilty of using a cult organization to undermine the law and each received suspended sentences of three years.

The ‘All powerful God’ cult, also known as ‘Eastern Lightning’ initiated by Zhao Weishan from Heilongjiang Province, loosely bases its teaching on misinterpreted passages from the Bible, and cheated people out of their money and homes under the guise of a Christian organization .

Chapters of the ‘All Powerful God’ cult has been scamming money out of people all over the country. They tend to encourage people to leave their families, before handing over all their money and property over to the cult, leaving many families distraught and broken apart.
