Crematorium Not Burning Clothes During APEC to Commit to Pollution Reduction
Nov 06, 2014 By eChinacities.com

The Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing’s Shijingshan District has caused a stir online, as it has vowed to suspend the burning of clothes and other belongings during the APEC summit from November 5 to November 11, in an effort to commit to pollution reduction.

The crematorium explained that they are adhering to the Regulations on Air Pollution Prevention and Control, Global Times reports. This is yet another policy to ensure that the world’s leaders see Beijing from its best angle.

However, Netizens were enraged as in accordance to Chinese tradition, clothing and belongings are burned alongside the deceased as there is a belief that this means they can be used and worn in the afterlife.

Global Times quotes a Sina Weibo user as saying: “Farts also pollute the air. I suggest not eating beans until APEC ends”.

What the article doesn't say is they also: - pushed the heating back a week - cancelled milk and other deliveries to clear the roads of put-puts - gave everyone 6 days off so they don't drive around as much - told people to stay inside and windows closed so they don't get shot by snipers (private security of the world leaders) And more just to reduce pollution. It sounds like they know how to reduce pollution but they don't give a damn if nobody "important" isn't watching.

i dont know if im being racist or just a critic. But the officials would even veto religion for profit...sending the people to the afterlife naked...lol..."we just came from a crazy rave".....but honestly ....this shows that they dont care about anything or anyone...no honor, no culture and no heritage, whats the point of crying over a 5000 yr fake history then....

First ever comment. "Farts also pollute the air. I suggest not eating beans until APEC ends”. Methane caused by natural bowel movements is natural and dissipates in the air. Man made methane is inert and collects. This is the same as people claiming volcanoes produce more pollution than CFC aerosol cans. It's nonsense and any environmental scientist will tell someone that. Netizens. Ugh!

...I think the guy was just being sarcastic... Every time some foreign officials come to a city, a lot of regulations are suddenly enforced, and new temporary regulations appears, up to ridiculous levels, only to revert to the usual no-shit-given attitude later. That's what it was about.

Apart from the failure to understand sarcasm, there is a serious chemistry fail here if you seriously believe there is some sort of difference between the two forms of methane. Cows farting is actually a serious greenhouse gas contributor.
