Crackdown on Car-Hiring Apps

Crackdown on Car-Hiring Apps
Jan 07, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Third-party taxi apps such as Didi Da Che and Kuaidi Da Che, have been facing troubles in cities throughout China since the summer and are set for more, after a taxi driver strike in Shenyang gained national attention.

The companies have been suffering from legal problems for several months now, as local authorities have been increasingly placing restrictions on the taxi apps.

Between October 18 and January 5, the apps have been referred to as ‘illegal’ by local authorities in Shanghai and Shenyang and forbidden from employing unlicensed taxi cabs for their services in Nanjing.

However, according to industry insiders, taxi hailing apps such as Kuaidi aren’t cutting into an existing market, but tapping into a new one. An anonymous source told ecns that taxi apps are being used as a “scapegoat” for poor regulation of illegal taxi cabs.

These apps are a good thing. For far too long taxi companies have been robbing people blind all over the world. This will give the system the shakeup it deserves.
