Cool Down this Summer by Heading to Xinjiang Where it Just Snowed!
Aug 15, 2013 By eChinacities.com

While most part of the country basks under the unforgiving heat of the summer sun, one part of Xinjiang has just experienced a freak snow shower in the middle of August. On August 13, a netizen called ‘刀郎部落酋长’ posted a picture on Tencent Weibo of a snowy road section at the 217 Duku National Road in southwestern Xinjiang.

Surprised by the uncharacteristic snowfall, people dressed in shorts and summer clothes got out of their cars and frolicked around in the snow.

The netizen’s post also came with the message to head to Xinjiang if you need respite from the heat. Thanks for the tip!

there are good many mountain passes in xinjiang, qinghai and tibet (even sichuan) where it snows year-round no matter if surrounding environment is summer or spring. i have seen snow on roads to yushu in july. there are snow storms in the karakorams even when it's 20 degrees in lhasa. go travel, man!
