Construction of Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Undersea Tunnel to Be Completed on April 28<sup>th</sup>

According to Xinhua News Agency, construction of the first undersea tunnel in north China – Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Undersea Tunnel will be completed on April 28th. Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Undersea Tunnel links to the old quarter of Qingdao to the north and Xuejia Island in Huangdao District to the south. The total investment for the tunnel was 3.298 billion yuan and has a total length of 7,800 metres, of which 3850 metres is land-area and 3950 is under the sea. According to the plan, Jiaozhou Bay Undersea Tunnel will open to traffic in the first half of next year. The tunnel will have a two-way lane and cars will be allowed to drive at a speed of 80 km/h.
