City of Yinchuan Searches Tirelessly for 114 hours after 4 Year-Old Loses Hearing Aid

When a four year old girl lost part of her hearing aid the citizens of Yinchuan, Ningxia province, took to the streets to find it after her father sent out a plea for help on Weibo.

On November 10 Song Guoqiang posted a message on Weibo saying that his four year-old daughter, Xiao Ru (a pseudonym), had lost the external component of her cochlear implant. In his message Song stressed how much she needed it back. The imported cochlear implant cost 280,000 RMB (46, 000USD) and required this external device to work. If it was not found, getting a replacement cochlear implant necessitated another invasive surgery for his daughter.

Well, the City of Yinchuan was not going to have a young girl born with congenital hearing loss go without her hearing device. No siree. News stations publicized the message, private citizens started looking everywhere, posters were distributed, the city's 1,500 official cars were sent to look for the device and taxi cab drivers were sent to search their vehicles, even the city’s chengguan and sanitation workers got involved.

It was finally on November 15, a full 114 hours after it was reported lost, that the device was finally recovered. And it was not in Xiao Ru’s pocket all along, but instead an old beggar had found it and returned it to the family.

Song said, "To all the people that got involved and tried to help us, I want to say that when our daughter grows up I will tell her all about this and teach her to be a good person and perform good deeds."

Song ended by saying, "This time, everyone in the city is a hero."

Wow, that girl's hearing aid sure is expensive. Her parents must be wealthy indeed. I'll help search for that hearing aid, coz I'm such a concerned citizen!
