Chinese Scholarship Funds for Foreign Students Increase

Chinese Scholarship Funds for Foreign Students Increase
Jan 22, 2015 By eChinacities.com

The Ministry of Finance has announced that it is increasing its annual scholarship grant for foreign students.

Undergraduate students can now receive 66,200 RMB per year, postgraduate students can receive up to 79,200 per year and people studying for their PhD can receive up to 99,800 RMB per year.

The raise in scholarship funds has been prompted by the recent increase of foreign students choosing to pursue further education in China and the rising costs of living in China’s major cities.

The scholarship will be paid monthly to students studying abroad in mainland China and is intended to cover living costs such as medical insurance, tuition fees, accommodation and international travel.

It's extra money. Would have been happy if I could have been subsidised for my education (not having to pay off student loans).

Still not worth much even after the increase. 66,000/12 =5500 - for everything from tuition to accommodation and international travel. Not a huge sum exactly.

Not enough to cover the cost of lung cancer treatments, for sure.
