Unconfirmed rumors that the price of natural gas in China is set to increase has sparked a shopping frenzy among budget-conscious Chinese. According to reports, anxious consumers in Xi’an, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Lanzhou and other cities, have been flocking to local gas centers to scoop up enough gas supplies to last them for the next ten years.
However, on March 25 a member of the National Development and Reform Commission stated that the rumors are unfounded and that “gas prices are unlikely to rise in April”. His words haven’t stopped massive lines from forming across the nation.
