At 10:46 on February 19, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred near Qiaojia County, Zhaotong City in Yunnan Province. Prior to the earthquake, a warning system devised by the Chengdu Disaster Prevention Research Institute and the Zhaotong Earthquake Administration successfully sent out warnings to the affected area. This marks the first time in China such earthquake warnings have been successful. Moreover, the system also successfully warned locals of a 4.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Yibin City in Sichuan Province on the same day.
