China to Launch Shenzhou 8 Spacecraft on November 1st

A spokesperson for the Chinese Manned Space Programme announced on October 31st at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre that the Shenzhou 8 Spacecraft is scheduled to launch on November 1st at 05:58. That same day, the centre began fuelling the carrier rocket for the spacecraft. The Shenzhou 8 is a second-generation manned carrier, and possesses automatic and manual functions for meeting up and docking with other spacecraft. After the launch, it will dock with the Tiangong 1 space lab, thus completing China’s first manned docking in space. The objective of the mission is to test the automatic docking technology and conduct some scientific experiments.
