China’s rapid economic expansion and love of celebratory drinking makes it the second best drinking country in the world, according to a puff piece published on cnn.com in commemoration of St. Patrick’s Day. The article notes that China’s wealthy are buying up all of the expensive bottles of French wine they can get their hands on and that Chinese love getting wasted on baijiu at weddings, birthdays, and to seal business deals, often taking the form of “a series of increasingly incomprehensible toasts.”

Ok I call BS on this article, the USA did not even make the top 10, get real.

I agree that Chinese drink a lot, but have not quite figured out the neighborhood bar concept. It is difficult to find a place to just go have an after work beer,and just unwind. You usually end up finding a small restaurant, close to work. After a while you can convince them that you just want a beer, not food. This becomes the known as the "local". Mine is currently an outdoor table at a small shop/restaurant by the train station.
