China Projected to Win 37 Gold Medals at Rio Olympics

There are 100 days until the start of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and China is looking to take home the gold. According to Infostrada Sports, the Chinese team is currently projected to win 37 gold medals, outpacing the United States. This year, China is quite strong in fields generally dominated by the United States including swimming and track and field.

The Chinese Olympic team is expected to earn gold medals in six fields typically dominated by China: table tennis, badminton, diving, weightlifting, shooting, and gymnastics. The team is projected to earn 27 gold medals in these events, and five in track and field, swimming, and volleyball. In addition, the team is looking to earn five gold models in woman’s judo, taekwondo, women’s cycling sprint, boxing, and fencing.

The United States is projected to win 35 gold medals. The team won 40 in the London Olympics.
