China Owns Half of the World’s Industrial Robots
Nov 24, 2015 By eChinacities.com

230,000 industrial robots were sold globally in 2014, and over 50 percent were sold in China. Robots are used globally in the automotive, electronics, food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries.

More than 50 percent of industrial robots are used in Asia, followed by North and South America, and Europe.

China purchased 56 percent of robots sold globally last year. Japan, the United States, and South Korea also purchased large numbers of robots.

There are more than 40,000 global suppliers of robots and the number of suppliers from China is on the rise. South Korea uses the most robots per factory, followed by Japan and Germany. Despite owning the most robots, China’s number of robots per factory is lower than the international average.

The International Robot Alliance predicts that in 2015, 1.5 million industrial robots will be in use. Within the next three years, the number will reach 2.3 million. 15 million non-industrial robots that work in the fields in medicine, agriculture, security, cleaning, and more will be put to use in the next three years. Sales of these robots will amount to more than 20 billion US dollars.
